Vegan Mountain Parka by Toray

Toray, a Japanese chemical product maker, began selling their brand-new mountain parka on the crowdfunding platform Makuake. The feature of the product is its vegan leather; Toray is famous for R&D such as heat-tech, the high-tech warm cloth invented with UNIQLO. The vegan leather called Chimaera Skin still is under development but it is said to have longer life than ordinary synthetic leather. It is waterproof but very thin: only 0.3 mm thick.

It’s product launch is scheduled for next Spring and only 250 pieces are available on the crowdfunding platform.

Vegan ponzu from Hinode Mirin

King Jozo launched vegan ponzu as a part of their Hinode Mirin brand products. Ponzu is citrus flavoured soy sauce, which often contains soup stock from fish, but this ponzu does not contain any animal product and has received Vegan Certificate from Vege Project Japan.

Ponzu is a typical Japanese sauce and goes well with soup and boiled vegetables. Please try.

New Sustainable Cafe opening in Shibuya: haishop cafe

The second shop of the “haishop” brand cafe is opening in Shibuya on the 17th of September. 80 percent of its dishes are vegan. Their concept is “sustainability” and they buy 75 percent of the ingredients directly from growers, which makes it possible for them to reduce food loss by using nonstandard fruit and vegetables.

Vegan osechi (bento box for the new year’s day) by Organic Restaurant Midorie

Midorie, an organic restaurant in Meguro, Tokyo, announced that they would begin accepting orders for their vegan osechi on the 10th of September. Osechi is Japanese traditional dishes for the new year’s day and most of its ingredients are seafoods. The osechi by Midorie, on the other hand, is a hundred percent vegan.

It’s not cheap and costs JPY 25,800, but, judging from the photo, it seems to have good value for money. Please try if you hope to spend the new year’s day like Japanese people do.

Vegan & Gluten free Birthday Cake by POSH Japan

POSH, a raw food patisserie in Tokyo, launched 2 types of vegan and gluten free birthday cake.

One is Mature Mango, which is made of mango fruit from Miyazaki prefecture. JPY 17,000.

The other is Honey Glow Pineapple; the pineapples are selected by Daiwa Supermarket, which is famous for its fruit sandwich (which is not vegan, unfortunately).
